Much is made of the need to move away from the so-called nuclear family. This is simply false. There is no institution which will ever eclipse the ability of a family-who-fears-God to do what needs to be done. This includes local and national government, school-systems, and all organizations from global to local – as well as local churches. While these may support the role of the family, it is simply arrogant and dangerous to think they can replace the family.
We are the God-ordained protectors of our kids. We guard them from all kinds of harm, and offer a safe place for them to emerge as young men and women. This is where nurture fits in. As we protect we guide. Through each of the stages of growing up, we represent our Father in being parents to our kids.
Working together to protect our children as we nurture the growth of their hearts and souls is our greatest calling. To expose or uncover our kids in this process produces only heartache.
Wisdom is the ability to put knowledge into practice. We are literally to become experts in parenting. Whatever time, whatever sacrifice, whatever needs overcoming – all are a part of honoring our Creator.
“Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD is one! You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart.
You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand and they shall be as frontals on your forehead. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” – Deuteronomy 6:4-9
