When Jesus said “follow me and I will make you fishers of men” He was expressing a woven teaching from the God Story. To follow is to honor. When we choose to follow God we are giving the greatest we can give to our King. Everything revolves around following – it is the ultimate display of honorable discipleship.
This is one of the reasons we love Ruth – and why she is such a great example of faith-following. Tough circumstances. Lots of reasons to dip out. Difficult heart choices. This sentiment is echoed in the words of the disciples “where else shall we go, you have the words of eternal life?” (John 6:68)
When we hear the Voice we follow. This is the hope of God’s true sheep. To hear our Master’s voice – shining from the Spirit locked within us! (John 10:27, 28)
