We are almost at journey’s end, studious friend! Have you chosen your top twenty favorite Psalms yet? Top ten? Top five?
Next week we will complete the last few Psalms and launch into 1 Kings. Saul had no heart (1 Samuel), David had a whole heart (2 Samuel), and Solomon half a heart (1 Kings). These are the Kings of the united Kingdom.
Psalm 127 is what I call the family heart song. It is one of the songs of ascents (120-134), which were sung in Jerusalem as worshippers headed for the Temple mount. Thousands would come from all over the world on pilgrimage to visit the city of the great King. David and Solomon’s kingdoms will pale in comparison to when the King of earth comes to reign in Jerusalem. Selah! Here are two more ascents songs (nice, brief, and singable).
