Jesus & His Dad

In Mentored by God we spend time considering what unfolded between Jesus and His Father. The God Story indicates God is mentoring all humanity in a return to Him. Jesus is our ultimate example in this. He came to earth and took on our exact condition and invites us to follow His example.

When do you think Jesus became God aware? When He was in the manger? Perhaps at 13 years of age when He was reasoning with the religious leaders in the Temple? From this birth to where He intentionally and publicly launches His mission at around 30 years of age there is a significant information gap. How did Jesus learn the Scriptures, and how did it differ from our own learning journeys? What did He learn through His life as a carpenter?

I have concluded that Jesus the man also lived by faith, just as you and I must choose to do. He was perfect, of course, but that doesn’t mean He did not learn about His Father through His earthly relational experiences.

Check this out:

Hebrews 5.7-8
“In the days of His flesh, He offered up both prayers and requests with loud crying and tears to the One able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His reverent submission. Although He was a Son, He learned obedience from the things which He suffered.”

Is it possible that the One Who had perfect faith also perfectly suffered – and consequently got to know His Father without any different God-help than other humans experience? And if true, how does it impact the extent of how Jesus needed to be mentored by God, in exactly the same ways we are?

Double check out:

Hebrews 4.15-16
“For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

This has massive potential relational ramifications for how Jesus got to know His own Dad – and how we get to know Him through His relationship with His Son.
