Solitude

(Read page 27 in Curious Journey)

There is a symmetry in just the right amount of quiet in the midst of a busy, productive life. When we spend too little time alone it is difficult to rest our soul. This in turn diminishes what we are able to give and receive from others.

At solitude’s core is rest. What rests our mind? Our body? Our emotions? Our soul? Solitude makes me better for others. When I unplug – I recharge. This can involve a place, a mechanism, an action, an intentional interruption to our everyday.

“So there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God. For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His. Therefore let us be diligent to enter that rest, so that no one will fall, through following the same example of disobedience.

For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight.”
– Hebrews 4:9-13

How do you find rest for your soul? For your mind? It may sound cliche’ but setting aside intentional time to spend with God can be the Rx to a busy life. Productivity is enhanced by solitude. Peace from solitude guides us in a quality, satisfying life.

A good solitude song
