Enter My Rest

Freedom Commandment #4/We are to rest as God rested

Think about how rest is built into everything. What happens when we don’t get enough sleep? When we are carried away by our obsessions? When we don’t seem to be able to be at peace? When we worry or fret?

A life of faith without experienced rest can cause us to grow weary and even lose heart.

“For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.”  – Hebrews 12:3

I love Jesus’ teaching about the talents.

“Also the one who had received the two talents came up and said, Master, you entrusted two talents to me. See, I have gained two more talents. His master said to him, Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.”  – Matthew 25:22-23

Perhaps this is why Hebrews 12:3 is preceded by verses 12:1-2:

“Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

I love living a high octane life. I love it even more when I can enjoy the contrasting rest that feeds my soul.
