S8E10 – God’s Home Base is our homebase

Everyone operates from a home base. Our upbringing. Our experiences. Our choices. Even factors made on our behalf by others. Through all of this we build our home base. Scientifically we apply what we see and learn. Philosophical we land on what we have wrestled with in our lives – positively and negatively. And to the degree we have encountered and contemplated faith we solidify our beliefs. Or not.

We have pondered this through the years, and often with each turning of a new year we have reset ourselves to sift through what has unfolded and what we hope – and the things we are committed to for the days ahead. It is a very imperfect process, but the reset always brings us one or more degrees of focus from our core – and into our home base.

Choosing to represent ourselves accurately and honestly can be helpful as we assess our progress on the journey. It can allow for an informed and sincere refocusing and choices which add up with solid “vision”. 

Our calculus and direction
Many speak of vision but we have learned to ask what principles are guiding our choices? What is it we want to accomplish? What will bring us a satisfied mind? What am I doing this moment and how will it impact the desire of my heart?

Investment in our relationships
Living for what we can give others rather than merely what we can get from them is an amazingly different way to live. Family. Friends. Co-workers. Neighbors. Like-minded companions.

Expenditures of our time
Someone has said “Time is like a flowing river. Our best choices involve scooping up buckets of time and watering things which will not go away.” God and people are eternal. Everything else is a vapor.
