Think about the ground we have covered. God’s account of the Creation, the Fall, the Flood, and the Tower. Rivers of foundational information about the human race. And then there is the miraculous story of God’s choice of the Hebrew people. When you add the deep insights of the first half of the book of Job, a reflective person will see we have been given so much to understand why things are the way they are.
We also turn to the stories of Jacob and Joseph. In Jacob we are provided insight into the nature of the relationship between a human who falls far short yet prevails with God to find rivers of grace. In Joseph we are given great insights into Who will ultimately deliver both Israel and the rest of world. Just as Joseph is used to protect and cover Israel (in a big way) so, too, Jesus will spread His covering over the human race for all who will believe in Him.
After a little friend-sparring – Job takes off on his biggest speech yet. It is a set-up to being lambasted by the youngest friend: Elihu. With friends like this…
Enjoy – you are in the thick of it – but there are deep waters in these two foundational books.
“Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you. Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world. After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you. To Him be dominion forever and ever. Amen.” – 1 Peter 5:6-11
Keep the read-faith!
