Book Review: Saving Your Marriage

We recommend about 20 books on Fourthstream. Not that there aren’t lots of other good books, but these seem relevant for understanding God’s family heart ways in a world where He has been mostly shut out (at least – theoretically).

For about a dozen years “saving your marriage” by Les and Leslie Parrott (seriously) has been my go-to for helping couples establish on solid and simple principles.

As a counselor I like this book because each of its 7 chapters are concise and clear, and each one ends with a one page summary of questions which can and should be returned to over and over again. The idea of prepping is powerful, because core things should be thought of and discussed often during the choosing and planning process. As you know, there are many struggles in the marriage world right now. Is it possible we have rejected the very things meant to allow us to achieve oneness?

The Myths of Marriage
What is Your Love Style
The Habit of Happiness
Communication
The Gender Gap
Fighting A Good Fight
Becoming Soul Mates

Les and Leslie communicate these principles well, and in our 5 decades of marriage we think Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts will not only be helpful to the two of you, it is a great resource for guiding others to find their way in the hard work of building true oneness.
