Holy Ground – Such a religious concept right?! Where does it originate? What does it mean? It is spoken in the story of Moses when he met God for the first time – in the burning bush.
Then He said, “Do not come near here; remove your sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.” Exodus 3
It happens again in Joshua 5.
“Now it came about when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, a man was standing opposite him with his sword drawn in his hand, and Joshua went to him and said to him, “Are you for us or for our adversaries?” He said, “No; rather I indeed come now as captain of the host of the Lord.” And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and bowed down, and said to him, “What has my lord to say to his servant?” The captain of the Lord’s host said to Joshua, “Remove your sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did so.” Joshua 5:13-15
So even the big man Moses was to bow before his Creator. And the angel speaking to Joshua reveals something quite interesting. “I am neither for you or your adversaries. I am here for the honor of the One who sits upon His throne. I have been there. I have seen Him. He is the One who I come to honor.”
Holy means “set apart.” Set apart for what? For us to encounter God in the same space and not be consumed, right? Communication. Bowing. Honoring. Listening. Connectivity through the protective filter of His grace.
This is why we have been given the Holy Spirit. He IS our common ground. We can see God and not be consumed. It is not so much recognition but identification. His holiness has brought me my godliness through Jesus. Priceless. He is the spotless Lamb and I am far from it. Through Him I have my sandals taken off and bow to His honor.
Note: Jesus washed the disciples feet introducing the idea that His holiness occurs when we serve others, just as God has sought us out and served us in His Son. “If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.” That’s in John 13. Wow.
Portable thoughts:
√ Do we ever walk on Holy Ground? Yes, whenever we encounter/are with our King.
√ How do we honor Him? By bowing and taking off the shoes of our heart (humility)
√ What happens when we wash one another’s feet? We emulate our gracious, serving Creator.
√ How does this occur? Through His Spirit of grace and truth!
Peace and rest friend!

See Hebrews 12 – wow/Mount Zion is our mountain! It is where the Kingdom’s King Jesus will reign. And we will reign with Him!
“Blessed and holy is the one who has a part in the first resurrection; over these the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with Him for a thousand years.” Revelation 20:6 At least this accounts for the first thousand years!
