040 BBB: Proverbs 1-15

OUR SEARCH FOR WISDOM

The next several weeks we will engage Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Solomon. This will be placed against the backdrop of Solomon’s life in 1 Kings 1-16, and help provide keys to experiencing life filled with God’s wisdom – or not. This is a great opportunity to review and/or select some of your favorite principles of wisdom you have found helpful in establishing your spiritual journey.

This is really instructive about true wisdom:
“For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the cleverness of the clever I will set aside.”

Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, God was well-pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.

For indeed Jews ask for signs and Greeks search for wisdom; but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles foolishness, but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.”     – 1 Corinthians 1.18-25

You may also wish to consider this as you read the first 15 chapters of Proverbs:
“But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy. And the seed whose fruit is righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.” James 3.17-18

I like how the Message translates verse 18: “You can develop a healthy, robust community that lives right with God, and enjoy its results only if you do the hard work of getting along with each other, treating each other with dignity and honor.”
Wow.
