When Jesus says He has made us clean, it is massive. Not only are we cleansed from our sin, we are also cleansed to be in the presence of our Perfect and Holy Father. In His final time alone with His followers Jesus says they are “already made clean through the word which I have spoken.” A done deal.
Never to be cleansed again? Of course not. In the world our feet get dirty – our minds for sure – and our hearts as well. Check this out:
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” – 1 John 1:9
John 13 and 15 help us to understand the God part of our clean identity. So we are made clean by Jesus and cleansed by confession of sin and a God-cleansing of our conscience. And here it is:
“Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He opened for us through the veil, that is, His flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.” – Hebrews 10:19-22
How are we made clean?
√ When we encounter Jesus’ authority
√ As we pursue Him with our heart (Word/prayer/breaking bread/fellowship)
√ Through understanding and fighting spiritual warfare
√ By uncovering and renouncing lies we have believed and sustained through doubt, anger, and fear
√ By closing gates from our upbringing, generational strongholds, targeting, curses, trauma, unforgiveness, and demonic encounters and agreements and ties
√ By binding and exchanging guilt, addictions, impurity, religion, and personal rebellion and associations)
√ Filling God’s space in me with God things
“It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.” – Galatians 5:1
It is beautiful to be made clean by Jesus!
