In episode #1 we viewed how the woven threads of the incredible, one of a kind God Story revolves around the eternal heart of the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Spirit of Grace. We launch episode #2 with the GodStory in 8 Minutes. It is so important to see the big picture God has revealed throughout His Word to mankind – for every century. We must guard against thinking our story is all about us. We are in the middle of everything, but it is truly all about Him!
Perhaps one of Jesus’ most expansive and complete teachings is often termed the sermon on the mount. It is found in Matthew 5-7 as well as the book of Luke. Jesus wants our minds but our hearts as well. While faith has many propositional aspects to it, when our heart fires on all cylinders we find rest for our souls.
Jesus did things surprisingly differently than a mere human would. He chose the way of humility to draw mankind to Himself. He was very selective about what He was going to accomplish in His human form visit to earth. He held to the Father’s plan, and saved what remained for when He would return a second time.
Next we investigate the Causal Name of Jesus. What did He accomplish that no one else could? Exactly what was the extent of His authority, and why did He choose to limit and direct that authority the way He did? Is there really more power in Jesus’ Name than any other human who has ever lived?
Jesus expresses seven things that give us clarity on His purposes for His first visit. God’s ways are not our ways. He has His plans which specifically involve His ultimate glory. In Isaiah 55 we read: “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” declares the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.
Finally, He is making all things new. “And He who sits on the throne declares, Know for sure, I am making all things fresh and new. Communicate this, for these God realities are faithful and true.” – Revelation 21:5
Burnadette and I have found true guidance for our lives from the God Story. Matthew 5-7 is the core of what Jesus taught. A great place to begin, is it not?
Hope you are having as much fun as we are!
