Catalyst’s Prayer: The overthrow of false gods in our City

Silver Raised in AirIt occurs to me that the deep idolatry of the Philistines was shared by those who should have known better. So it is with a certain amount of trepidation that I ask you to join me this week to boldly ask our Father to overthrow false gods in our city. We will set apart time/some meals from this Friday night after work though Saturday evening at dinner. We would love to have you stand with us!

“Now the Philistines took the ark of God and brought it from Ebenezer to Ashdod. Then the Philistines took the ark of God and brought it to the house of Dagon and set it by Dagon.

When the Ashdodites arose early the next morning, behold, Dagon had fallen on his face to the ground before the ark of the LORD. So they took Dagon and set him in his place again.

But when they arose early the next morning, behold, Dagon had fallen on his face to the ground before the ark of the LORD. And the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off on the threshold; only the trunk of Dagon was left to him. Therefore neither the priests of Dagon nor all who enter Dagon’s house tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod to this day.”              – 1 Samuel 5:1-5

As we have been prepping to pray (and invite you to join us) several thoughts about false god overthrow come to mind:

– please pray for courage and protection of any who would dare to boldly pray for such a thing

– that false gods would be clearly seen for what and who they are

– that God would give us grace as a city to renounce personal idols

– that craving would be exchanged for desire for God

May this “earth day” be overshadowed by the spiritual realities of God’s True Passover.
