Gullibility

The source of human gullibility is hubris. “When pride comes, then comes dishonor, but with the humble is wisdom.”  – Proverbs 11:2  With lack of understanding of God and His ways, we become more susceptible to the schemes of the adversary.

“But one whom you forgive anything, I forgive also; for indeed what I have forgiven, if I have forgiven anything, I did it for your sakes in the presence of Christ, so that no advantage would be taken of us by Satan, for we are not ignorant of his schemes.”   – 2 Corinthians 2:10-11

When our pride is not in check we are vulnerable. Because our desires are so dominant we are easily led astray. (“For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.” – 1 John 2:16)

Carefully consider this list from 2 Timothy 3 which describes our spiritual gullibility and vulnerability:

“In the last days difficult times will come. Men and women will be:

lovers of self
lovers of money
boastful
arrogant
revilers
disobedient to parents
ungrateful
unholy
unloving
irreconcilable
malicious gossips
without self-control
brutal
haters of good
treacherous
reckless
conceited
lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God
holding to a form of godliness although they have denied its power”

Ring any bells? There is a spiritual gullibility which transcends any human foibles.
