Jesus is clearly named the son of man in the Bible. The Jewish prophets tell of His coming (see Ezekiel and Daniel). He often indicates this about Himself as well. Son of man speaks of both His god-ness and His humanity.
“And the Word became human and dwelt among us. We saw His glory, glory as of the only One proceeding from the Father, full of grace and truth. John the baptist testified about Him and cried out, saying, “This is Who I told you about when I said, ‘He who comes after me has a higher rank than I, for He existed before me.’” Of His fullness we have all received: grace upon grace. For the Law was given through Moses; and grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ. No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten God who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him.” – John 1:14
Psalm 8 is insightful as well. “When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained; what is man that You take thought of him, and the son of man that You care for him? You have made him a little lower than Yourself, and You crown him with glory and majesty! You gave Him rule over the works of Your hands; and You have put all things under his feet: sheep and oxen and the beasts of the field, the birds of the heavens and the fish of the sea and whatever passes through the paths of the seas. O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth!“
What this means is that Jesus the Son is 100% God while at the same time being 100% human. He not only has come to find us and save us from ourselves, He has done so with a full understanding of our human experience.
“For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet He lived without sin.” – Hebrews 4:15
√ The Son of Man is often explained prophetically in the God Story
√ Jesus does not come to condemn us but to save us (we are condemned already)
√ God’s care for us must extend through Jesus (because we are lost beyond finding)
√ He understands us and He is able to lead us out of death’s imperfections
“But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins He said to the paralytic, ‘Get up, pick up your bed and go home.’ ” – Matthew 9:6
He is both Sower and Harvester!
“The one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man…” – Matthew 13:37
“Then I looked, and behold, a white cloud, and sitting on the cloud was one like a son of man, having a golden crown on His head and a sharp sickle in His hand.” Wow. – Revelation 14:14-16
His goodness never fails!
