Knowing God. Hearing God’s Voice. Pleasing Him. These are mysteries to most humans. What is the process of knowing God? How can I find my own path to connectivity with the One who made me and the One who rules the earth, the universe, and beyond? How can I know such a transcendent and mysterious Being?
Volumes have been written about this pursuit. Here we will take a shot at personalizing this for anyone who is interested.
What is at the heart of a genuine knowing God experience?
– Understanding and finding a pure heart
– Getting to know God once I am on the road of humility
– Engaging in a life of doing kindness toward God and others
– Embracing Jesus’ desire for us to grow life in and around us
As we have discussed before – everything is about honor. We honor being made in the image of God by honoring His written Word and His living Word Jesus.
When we reject the honor found in the two great commandments we rob ourselves of knowing God more deeply. It is that simple.
And He said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the great and foremost commandment. The second is like it, ‘you shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.” – Matthew 22:37-40
Honor is the process and evidence of knowing God. Do I know God? If I honor Him I know Him. If I dishonor Him I do not know Him. “But someone may well say, you have faith and I have works; show me your faith without the works, and I will show you my faith by my works.” James 2:18
Jesus took honor very seriously:
“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not speak truth in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me you who practice lawlessness.
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell — and great was its fall.”

No one else can determine whether or not you honor and know God. You will know when you keep His two great commandments. And this quest is designed for our entire lives!
