You have undoubtably heard that when person becomes a follower of Jesus Christ he or she is filled/in-dwelt/inhabited by His Holy Spirit. While it can be confusing about what this looks like in various people and different manifestations around the world – as well as in history – the reality is NO SPIRIT – NO GOD.
The Bible teaches us our Creator is a triune being, distinct in three and at the same time seamless in oneness. Volumes have been written on what this means, and God’s Word operates on this “who is God” premise from cover to cover. No confusion. Only clarity.
One of the mysteries (follow the mystery thread) is the nature and activity of this reality about the Living God. It leads to the question: How can I know Spirit is happening for me? There are several points which can help us as we grow in our connectivity with Jesus, His Spirit, and our Creator Father.
√ Embrace Jesus and be reconciled to your Heavenly Father, having your sins paid for by the blood of the Lamb. “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.” John 14:6
√ Receive the Spirit who is “a pledge of our inheritance.” (Ephesians 1:14) Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit says the Lord God. Then he said to me, “This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel saying, ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ says the LORD of hosts.” Zechariah 4:6
√ Learn to live in the Spirit by the power of God.
“In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.” Romans 8:26-27
Can you see it?
Here are some keys to having Spirit happen for you!
√ Learn about and pursue humility in ALL things. This is a lifelong process many never even begin. Where are you on this humility road?
√ Pursue honor in your relationship with God, people, and even yourself. Do you have a picture for what this looks like?
√ We all give ourselves to something. Devotion in the Spirit to the honor of God is the prize for those who are covered by the blood of Jesus.
√ Do Good and Share. “And do not neglect doing good and sharing, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.” Hebrews 13:16
God wants all to hear His voice. This can and will only happen, however, if we learn to hear the voice of His Spirit, follow in the footsteps of His Son, and deeply desire to honor the King who is above all!
