Ruth: Following Heart

When Jesus said “follow me and I will make you fishers of men” He was expressing a woven teaching from the God Story. To follow is to honor. When we choose to follow God we are giving the greatest we can give to our King. Everything revolves around following – it is the ultimate display of honorable discipleship.

This is one of the reasons we love Ruth – and why she is such a great example of faith-following. Tough circumstances. Lots of reasons to dip out. Many difficult heart choices.

This sentiment is echoed in the words of the disciples “where else shall we go, you have the words of eternal life?” (John 6:68)

When we hear the Voice we follow. This is the hope of God’s true sheep. To hear our Master’s voice – shining from the Spirit locked within us. What a gift from God!

“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.” – John 10:27-29

This is beautiful to God:
But Ruth said, “Do not urge me to leave you or turn back from following you; for where you go, I will go, and where you lodge, I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God, my God. Where you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. Thus may the LORD do to me, and worse, if anything but death parts you and me.” – Ruth 1:16-17
