005 BBB: A Pause in the Action

We hope you are enjoying your journey through the two oldest books in the God Story. We are knocking off a significant portion, halfway through our quest to understand our origins and to learn more regarding the questions why is there evil in the world? and why do people suffer? God uses other people and story to convey His personal connection to our lives. He also uses arduous life journeys and turbulence to produce faith, hope, and love in His followers.

Genesis reveals our roots. Abraham appears to have begun as a spiritual loser. But faith cultivates as Abraham learns what it means to follow the faith-path of the Living God. By the time he offers his son it appears he is ready to fully entrust himself to His faithful Creator (1 Peter 4:19).

“…you are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials, so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ…”              – 1 Peter 1:5-7

Job and his friends wrestle through their thoughts and share their insights as the book unfolds. Suffering is one of those inscrutable parts of trying to understand God’s plans.

Genesis: Woven Characters from the God Story traces the highlights across the God Story. It is helpful to focus on key characters and how they are viewed in the woven story of scripture.
