We are deep diving into the life of this one-of-a-kind King. Because he is a prophetic character he forms the basis for a human picture of the heavenly Kingdom. David is Messianic in that his life gives us clear pictures of what will be when our true King arrives.
A Psalm of David.
“The LORD says to my Lord: sit at My right hand until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet. The LORD will stretch forth Your strong scepter from Zion, saying,’Rule in the midst of Your enemies.’
Your people will volunteer freely in the day of Your power as holy warriors. From the womb of the dawn your children are to You as the dew. The LORD has sworn and will not change His mind, You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.” (Genesis 14; Hebrews 7) The Lord is at Your right hand and He will shatter kings in the day of His wrath. He will judge among the nations, He will fill the cities with corpses.
He will shatter the chief men throughout the land. He will drink from the waters as He comes. He will lift up His head.” – Psalm 110:1-7
The overview of 1 Samuel is the rise of Saul, the decline of Saul, and the rise of David. 2 Samuel divides into two parts – David’s Success – and David’s Shame. While it is a humbling story for David, his heart for God never fails him. This is more than a storybook. We are reading the words of life!
