Perfect! Psalm 19

I woke up singing this song from Psalm 19 this morning (not the first time). God’s Law, prophets, and Psalms formed the backdrop for Jesus’ life and teaching. “Now He said to them, “These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things which are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.”  – Luke 24.44

I wrote this rendition of Psalm 19 for my own “choir director.” It is my overlap with King David’s heart as he considers the majesty and the beauty of God’s living Word. Enjoy Psalm 19 as you listen to Perfect!

For the choir director. A Psalm of David. Psalm 19.

The heavens are recounting and singing out the glory of God;
And their unending stamp of God is lifting up the work of His hands.
Day to day pours out His majestic beauty,
and endless nights declare the One Who may be known!
There are no verbal words nor arguments, but these words speak unending volumes.
Their words of glorious expectation have gone out through all the earth,
and their incredible answers – the deep things of God to the end of the world.
In them He has placed a home for the wild power of the sun,
which is like an anticipating groom on his wedding night.
The sun delights in God-ordained purpose, day after day.
Its faithful route is from one end of the heavens to the other;
And there is nothing hidden from its purposed warmth.

The  words of life of the Lord are complete in every way,
bringing life back to the soul every time they are encountered;
The proven truth of the LORD is confidently confirmed, making the learner wise.
The appointments of the LORD are smooth and straight, lifting up the heart;
The order of the LORD purifies, bringing light to the eyes of our soul.

The awe of the LORD is purifying, allowing our souls to endure forever.
The oversight of the LORD is firm and filled with justice in every way.
It is more desirable than all riches and possessions, than every form of accumulation.
It is sweeter than honey in the flowing of the honeycomb.
In addition to this His servants are warned in their journey;
and in keeping His Words there is great reward.

What man or woman can discern errors within their walk?
Deliver and cleanse me of the things even I can’t see about myself.
Also keep back Your servant from proud sins of presumption against You and others;
let them not dominate me…then I will be delivered into Your perfection.
I shall be delivered from my breach of Your trust through my rebellion.
Let the words of my mouth and the meditating music of my heart
Be pleasing in Your sight, O LORD, my rock and the One Who buys back my soul.

Selah, friend!
