Identity is a powerful thing. What we believe about ourselves drives us – both for good and not-so-good. We define ourselves. People do. Our culture does as well. There are so many factors which contribute to our personal identity.
So I must learn to discern between what I think about myself, how others perceive me, and ultimately, how does God feel about me?
Psalm 139 is beautiful for defining this. Here is a sample:
“My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth; Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; and in Your book were all written the days that were ordained for me, when as yet there was not one of them.
Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts; and see if there is any hurtful way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way.” – Psalm 139:15,16, 23,24
Is it possible to be known and to know our Creator to this degree? David believed so. The Holy Spirit pursues this with each one of us. What do you believe about your God connection? What do you believe about who you REALLY are?
