Our pre-teens and teens are growing up in a much different world from the one we knew. Think about the things that have changed! And I am not merely talking about the obvious tech and information stuff. It is the American and International world view that have been turned upside down.
Teens are, of course, negotiating many of the internal things that we do have a frame of reference for. That is the focus of this post.
But the access provided by technology, fear of threats seen and unseen, breakdown of culture, and loss of appreciation and practice of God’s Law has changed the game for our kids and grandkids. We must prepare them with more than advice. We must teach them eternal principles. And there is only one place to find these.
To find solutions we must not be oblivious to the pressures our kids are facing. Educating ourselves, keeping healthy communication, and helping our kids find God-strategies is a lot of why parents need huge amounts of courage.
We also need to go to our God for help.
“Then the LORD appeared to Solomon at night and said to him, “I have heard your prayer and have chosen this place for Myself as a house of sacrifice. If I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or if I command the locust to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among My people, and My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to the prayer offered in this place. For now I have chosen and consecrated this house that My name may be there forever, and My eyes and My heart will be there perpetually.” – 2 Chronicles 7:12-16
This is how God feels about His covenant people.
