Owning and teaching our family values. Out-of-date? Undoable? Unproductive?
Each family needs to articulate our core values so we can teach our kids how to set and keep personal goals – as well as God-goals. What is at the core of what your family stands for? Where do you make your stand? Is this well-articulated between you as parents, and what is the strategy for passing them on to your kids?
Being intentional about our core allows us to make plans that are not only doable, but worth doing.
Our resources include our time, our talents, and our treasures. Our family must have an articulated and modeled vision for how we conduct ourselves in these three areas. Our children need to learn to pursue a giving heart from within their home base.
“The mind of man plans his way, but the LORD directs his steps.” – Proverbs 16:9
“Now this I say, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
– 2 Corinthians 9:6,7
What we truly value will be communicated to our kids. Do you have an intentional master-plan for passing on your world view? To help your kids in discovery?
