The God Space

I have been reading much lately about the interplay of science, philosophy, and faith. Watching the incredible unfolding of the pandemic refocused my attention on the absolute corrupt opportunism of mankind. It would be wonderful if we could trust human nature in light of our privileged assets. We simply cannot. This leads me to find answers for the great questions of life within a space which transcends the manipulation of mankind – my own sins included.

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.”  – Isaiah 55:8-9

Are we encountering a Jewish prophetic homily crafted by a clever person? I think not. The God Story is not a very flattering book toward either God’s chosen Hebrew race nor her prolific sister – the human race. Perhaps there is a reality we can only imagine (or reject). Perhaps there is a dimension(s) where something (or Some One) exists on a different plane. Is it possible this occurs outside of the dimension of time?

Intelligent Design proponents scoff at evolutionary hubris. And the sons of natural selection rule out as absurd any possible Ultimate existence. What if science, true God- Story foundations, and fear-ravaged philosophy will all eventually find our home under one tent – one set of Sheltering wings – those of the Living God?!

One of my favorite (and easy to find) Psalms is Psalm 2. In it I find myself transported to this transcendent place of intellect, creativity, compassion, and strength of which as a human I only see in dim images. Spending a little time meditating on this may teach you something about the God space.

Why are the nations in an uproar and the peoples devising a vain thing? The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers take counsel together against the Lord and against His Anointed, saying, “Let us tear their shackles apart and cast away their ropes from us!”

He who sits in the heavens laughs, the Lord scoffs at them. Then He will speak to them in His anger and terrify them in His fury, saying, “But as for Me, I have installed My King upon Zion, My holy mountain.” I will surely tell of the deep truth of the Lord: He said to Me, ‘You are My Son, today I have begotten You. ‘Ask of Me, and I will surely give the nations as Your inheritance, and the very ends of the earth as Your possession. ‘You shall break them with a rod of iron, You shall shatter them like earthenware.’”

Now therefore, O kings, show discernment; take warning, O judges of the earth. Worship the LORD with reverence and rejoice with trembling. Bow before and embrace the Son, that He not become angry, and you perish in the way, for His wrath may soon be kindled. How blessed are all who take refuge in Him!”  – Psalm 2

Whether you buy into the supernatural claims of the Word of God or not – we are all under His wings:

“Then the glory of the LORD will be revealed, and all flesh will see it together; for the mouth of the LORD has spoken.” A voice says, “Call out.” Then he answered, “What shall I call out? All flesh is grass, and all its loveliness is like the flower of the field. The grass withers, the flower fades, when the breath of the LORD blows upon it; surely the people are grass. The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever.”  -Isaiah 40:5-8

Look around you. Each of us will face our final earth day, and there is no amount of science, philosophy, or religion that is going to keep that from happening, right?!

As for Burnadette and me, we are stepping into the God Space, and kissing the Son. It is the only hopeful choice. Every day. Won’t you join us?
