Rejection

Even the strongest soul is vulnerable to rejection. As much as we guard ourselves against the unpleasantness (or even the evil of others), when we know we are looked down upon or cast aside, it can cut to the heart of our soul.

It is hard to imagine God’s only Son being rejected in the same – but much deeper ways. He not only suffered Himself – but also took on the weight of the sins of the entire world. Unimaginable. My sins alone seem crushing.

“For He grew up before Him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of parched ground; He has no stately form or majesty that we should look upon Him, nor appearance that we should be attracted to Him. He was despised and forsaken of men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and like one from whom men hide their face. He was despised, and we did not value or accept Him.”  – Isaiah 53:2,3

When you find yourself experiencing rejection:
√   Remember, God understands. He too was rejected.
√   Remember who you are – made in the image of God.
√   Take each instance of rejection and come boldly to God’s throne to find His mercy.
√   Recognize that the one who rejects you is being used as a tool by the adversary.
√   Resist the devil by holding to the fact that:
– the rejection (suffering) of this world does not compare with the coming glory.
– when we resist him in the Spirit He must flee from us. Really.

We must separate the person rejecting us from the greater conflict. We only succumb to discouragement when we lose our way about God.

“Who is there to harm you if you prove zealous for what is good?”  – 1 Peter 3:13

Remember, Jesus understands our feelings of rejection completely. Hopes that fall through. Family disappointment. Desertion by those who were our friends. When find we fall short of what is needed. This list can be a very long one.

It is important to understand we are not alone. “He gets us, right?” Rejection is one of the impactful tools of the enemy. It opens the door to discouragement. To feeling hopeless. To second guessing ourselves.
