To Those Who Love Our City

Des Moines is my city. I grew up in Wisconsin and came to Urbandale in 1967. They talked funny here but I adapted.

Every city is filled with people – but more importantly – with souls. For every body there is a heart, and for every heart there is a soul. Most honest-minded people know humanity has a huge heart need mere words of redefinition will not change. Des Moines is special to me – it is filled with my memories – my people – my neighbors.

Check this out:

“Seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the LORD on its behalf; for in its welfare you will have welfare. For the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel says, ‘Do not let your prophets who are in your midst and your false teachers deceive you, and do not listen to the dreams which they dream. They prophesy falsely to you in My name and I have not sent them,’ declares the LORD.”  – Jeremiah 29:7-9

Like all cities, we have our strengths and our vulnerabilities. Politics, socio-economics, inequalities – as well as good men and bad. And women too. I am asking the questions “What could make Des Moines distinct?” and  “How can we rise above the inevitable curve?” Burnadette and I choose to believe it is possible to call upon God to work on fundamental levels for heart change in our city. This is called intercession. Our city needs bold awakening prayers.

In the nav bar you will notice a PRAY tab. This is one way we connect with others who believe true change will only come down from heaven into human hearts. Each week we focus on some aspect of warfare prayer, because my friend, we were born into a world engaged in spiritual war. This allows us to put on our armor and pray at all times in the Spirit. Check it out – we would love to have you as a prayer ally.

There are so many true-hearted harvest workers in our city. Let’s be intentional, set aside our distractions, and faithfully pray for one another. Jesus said to His disciples: “What a huge harvest, but how few workers! On your knees and pray for harvest hands!”  – Matthew 9:37-38/Message

We can do this!
