My Grandsons & Revelation

This summer provided opportunity to meet each week with my two grandsons who are at Iowa State. Considering the future via Revelation was their idea, so I pulled out my notes and refreshed my mind on what is yet to come. It was fun to hear their insights, to witness how they respond to God’s truth, and to share together about the mind-blowing aspects of Daniel’s 70th week (let the reader understand).

As we sorted through the events of Revelation we always returned to the Person of the letter. The WHAT is inevitable. I was encouraged by their level of interest and engagement about the One Who is to come. The WHAT will be both breathtaking and heart-stopping (perhaps even eye-popping as well)!

Being together reminded me about the power of reading God’s Word with others, allowing His everlasting words to speak to us through His Spirit. While finding answers is a part of meditating, what His Word fires in imaginations brings power to our souls and into our lives.

Intentionality is important in spirituality. If we give God only leftovers of our energy and our available time we miss out. He doesn’t need our devotion, but invites us to search His Story to understand Him.

We listened to a speaker a few weeks ago who was talking about the over 300 prophesies concerning Jesus, all spoken hundreds of years earlier. He explained the probabilities of the the fulfillment of only 30 or so of the 300 – because of specificity and timeframe – and the odds are incredible!

We have much to occupy our attention, but God has moved heaven and earth to freely provide good things for our souls. He has spoken. Hopefully we are listening.

“But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day. The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up…”                    – 2 Peter 3:8-10

Here’s to another week of hope in challenging times!
