Music: Psalm 16 - Beautiful

I have written quite a few God-song choruses to help me connect God’s Word to my heart and mind. Beautiful was fun because I was able to write it pretty much word for word from the text. It has been good for me to memorize this via song – makes it easier to use in the “night watches.”

“Preserve me, O God, for I take refuge in You.
I said to the LORD, “You are my Lord; I have no good besides You.”
As for the saints who are in the earth, they are the majestic ones in whom is all my delight. The sorrows of those who have bartered for another god will be multiplied;

I shall not pour out their drink offerings of blood, nor will I take their names upon my lips. The LORD is the portion of my inheritance and my cup; You support my lot.
The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; indeed, my heritage is beautiful to me.

I will bless the LORD who has counseled me; indeed, my mind instructs me in the night. I have set the LORD continually before me; because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad and my glory rejoices; my flesh also will dwell securely. For You will not abandon my soul to Sheol; nor will You allow Your Holy One to undergo decay.

You will make known to me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy;
In Your right hand there are pleasures forever. Indeed, my heritage is beautiful to me.”

One of the purposes of Psalms is to lift us up to the bigger picture. This is so true with Psalm 84 – the sons of Korah are celebrating the home Israel has found in Yahweh – the great Lord of Hosts! The Message translates this Name as “the God of the Angel Armies.” Wow.

In what ways have you found a “home” in God? How does this passage resonate with your God experience?

“All these died in faith, without receiving the promises, but having seen them and having welcomed them from a distance, and having confessed that they were strangers and exiles on the earth. For those who say such things make it clear that they are seeking a country of their own. And indeed if they had been thinking of that country from which they went out, they would have had opportunity to return. But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God; for He has prepared a city for them.”  – Hebrews 11:13-16

Pretty cool my traveling friend.
