Perceiving beyond the gap between earth and heaven can be quite daunting. Has God spoken? How am I supposed to hear His voice? And what about His apparent greatness? I am so small and insignificant compared to Him. Do I have what it takes to bridge the gap?
Moses gives us some “old testament” insight. (by the way, where in the Word of God is there identified an old and new testament? It appears to us there is only one testament).
“For this commandment which I give you today is not too difficult for you, nor is it out of reach. It is not in heaven, that you should say, ‘Who will go up to heaven for us to get it for us and make us hear it, that we may observe it?’ Nor is it beyond the sea, that you should say, ‘Who will cross the sea for us to get it for us and make us hear it, that we may observe it?’ But the word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may observe it.” Deuteronomy 30:11-14
Here is a little insight on drawing near to God:
√ “Guard your steps as you go to the house of God and draw near to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools; for they do not know they are doing evil.” Ecclesiastes 5:1
√ “Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.” Hebrews 7:25
√ “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.” James 4:8
More on this woven thread:
√ You are created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27)
√ God cares about you and values you (1 Peter 5:6,7)
√ We have the Holy Spirit inside of us Who is disclosing Jesus to us (John 16:13)
√ Our Creator has bridged the gap through His Son (Romans 8:3-4)
How do we know we have drawn near to God?
- When we experience perfected love over fear (love in faith and truth) (1 John 4:18)
- When we experience genuine peace (Colossians 3:15; Philippians 4:7)
- When we are secure in our identity of value and rest (Hebrews 4:9)
Peace for your heart,
