Vision is an interesting concept. Often used in business, religion, and politics. Also concerning the way we choose to direct our lives for greater purposes. Many books have been written – and I am sure many more will come – formulas, ideas, tips, and insights into how we may “cast vision” that can give our lives meaning and fulfillment. Here are a few thoughts you may find helpful.
The God part – it is important we care enough about what God cares about, as well as what He thinks regarding us personally. Since He is the only One Who can discern what is in our heart (one heart or billions at a time!) we will all stand before Him someday and give an account for the degree we cared about what was important to Him.
The Planning part – as we learn and grow to understand what is key from a Jesus-vision perspective, we experience freedom to invest our lives: our time, our talents, and our treasures – all for the purpose of hearing “well done” from our Master.
The Follow-through part – this is often the most tricky – restarting/recommitting over and over again to what we know is right and true. It is cumulative. A well-done life is not built in an instant, it is built over many days and years. This is the testing arena of faith in which we find ourselves.
The Future part – this is the most challenging to imagine and/or quantify. “His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.’ Matthew 25.23 In fact, it is up to every Christ-Follower to personally work this out with our Lord and God. What are my “few things” which have been entrusted to me?
A couple of thoughts follow which can help you to find rich value at the end of your journey. Life is not a sprint, but a long race. This is worth thinking about – traveling friend!
May these next months be filled with purpose and hope – and vision for a race well run!
