CJ-011: Americana

Little Marine(page 19 of Curious Journey)

I fear for the American heart. Our leaders appear to have been seduced by obsession for recognition, personal greed, and political correctness. They appear to me to have succumbed to a deep, dangerous arrogance. These are all things I understand all too well in my own heart and life.”

The real point, actually, is that we need to be awakened spiritually. And this will necessitate a “turning away” from one thing to another. Recovery of the free American heart and dream will come only through spiritual awakening.

“Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness; who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter! Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and clever in their own sight! Woe to those who are heroes in drinking wine and valiant men in mixing strong drink, who justify the wicked for a bribe, and take away the rights of the ones who are in the right!”  – Isaiah 5:20-23

What is your experience with Americana, and what do you think it will take to right the ship? What are the things you ask God for regarding our country?

What value does the imperfect historic American experience bring to your life?

I am a creature of my times – but I certainly don’t need to be ruled or diminished by them.

May our God and Creator graciously deliver us from our human and national shortcomings.
