As Franklin Graham said the other day at the Inauguration of President Donald J. Trump: “Mr. President, in the Bible, rain is a sign of God’s blessing. And it started to rain, Mr. President, when you came to the platform. And it’s my prayer that God will bless you, your family, your administration, and may He bless America.”
The Rain of God’s leadership has never been invested in a man or a group of men, apart from the Man Jesus Christ. I personally believe Franklin Graham speaks prophetically. As the election ramped up Franklin began his prayer tour for our national election right on our own Iowa capital steps. I was one of the hearts present praying for God’s rain upon our land. I didn’t perceive Franklin at any point to be pro-Trump, but pro-God for sure. I voted for Donald Trump in the Iowa caucuses because I believed God was telling me that Mr. Trump was His chosen instrument to bring rain upon our land.
I am a political junkie of sorts. I am really quite versed in the ups and downs of parties and policy and have paid close attention to politics since the “high hopes” song that was ascribed to the campaign of JFK (yes, I am that old). I feel hopeful for our country because I believe #1) that God answers the prayers of His people and listens to the voice of the afflicted and #2) that there is no leader who has ever lived on the face of the earth who was or is out of God’s reach (check out “king of kings” Nebuchadnezzar in the book of Daniel, chapter 3-4…it is astonishing!).
While I personally am hopeful and encouraged about Donald Trump as God’s instrument for American renewal, I place no more hope in him than Barack Obama, George Bush, Bill Clinton, Bush 41, Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter, Gerald Ford, Lyndon Johnson, or John Kennedy. Or George Washington or Abraham Lincoln for that matter.
Won’t you join me in praying for spiritual rain upon our new president, his cabinet, congress, the supreme court, and our hurting and hungry American culture and our dry and thirsty world? It is time to pray BOLD PRAYERS, and it begins in our city and the cities of our state. Be bold, my friend, for the God of Heaven longs to be gracious to us!
“For the eyes of the LORD move throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His.” – 2 Chronicles 16.9
Therefore the LORD longs to be gracious to you, And therefore He waits on high to have compassion on you. For the LORD is a God of justice; How blessed are all those who long for Him. – Isaiah 30.18
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love. – 1 John 4.18
May our president’s heart be captured by the King of Heaven, and may our land and our neighbors find the peace of God through the Living Water of Life in Jesus.
