Where was God?

Deep one today, my friends!

When a person contemplates life’s conditions we of necessity must wrestle with the question “why are things the way they are?” Within this question is an almost unfathomable Creator, One Who appears to be less reactive than He is creatively dynamic. What this means is that nothing takes Him by surprise. He has established all parameters – after all – He is God. I am struck by how engaged the scriptures are about this concept. In Deuteronomy 32:39 we are given insight not every person can receive.

‘See now that I, I am He,
And there is no god besides Me;
It is I who put to death and give life.
I have wounded and it is I who heal,
And there is no one who can deliver from My hand.

So back to our premise when it comes to how people are healed (last post). We have all been afflicted, some by parents or relatives, classmates, friends and neighbors, co-workers. Think about some of your toughest times. These are crossroads in our journey where we must return and recognize that while our afflicters may have great culpability, our God has set the parameters.

This means the answer to the question”where were You, God?” is clear. “I was right there with you, My child.” Once we have reconciled the question “where was God?” we are free to apply His prescription for our suffering. And really, didn’t Jesus wrestle with this same issue when He cried out.

About the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “ELI, ELI, LAMA SABACHTHANI?” that is, “MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?”   – Matthew 27:46

In 2 Kings 20 there is a touching story about a suffering king. It sheds additional light on God’s attention to the challenges of our lives. And His shoulders are big enough to carry it all.
