Read GENESIS 12-20 and JOB 8-14
Let’s take a look at conditions surrounding the choosing and calling of Abraham. Hebrews 11:8-12 paints a great retrospective of Abraham’s faith-life. How would you describe Abraham and his story’s impact from this passage? In what ways can you relate? Not relate?
In JOB his second friend steps into the fray with his thoughts on the “why” of Job’s misfortunes. Nice. While Job is not mentioned in the hall of faith of Hebrews 11 he does come up in James 5:11. “We count those blessed who endured. You have heard of the endurance of Job and have seen the outcome of the Lord’s dealings, that the Lord is full of compassion and is merciful.”
Try to imagine Job’s feelings as his poor suffering heart and body take in the words of his friends. How long do you suppose this process took? Hours? Days? Weeks?
