071 BBB: Philippians: Christ Our Joy

There is a difference between joy and happiness. Happiness is a state of mind which can drastically impact our emotional well-being. Joy exudes from the soul, and while it impacts our emotions, it is tied more deeply to the deep personal peace within us. I like to call it a satisfied mind.

Israel faced some pretty stiff challenges as they returned to the Beautiful Land after their captivity. The hard work of rebuilding the city’s walls was a huge task, and there were many who stood in their way. The book of Ezra tells the story of the rebuilding of the Temple. Nehemiah, the walls of the great city of God.

Then he said to them, “Go, eat the best, drink the sweet, and share with others who have nothing prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not be grieved, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”
– Nehemiah 8:10

It is easy to underestimate the impact of joy. True joy produces deep strength. To be filled with joy is to be strong in spirit, and allows us to do things which exceed mere human effort. This is why it is so key to have a joyful connection with our King!

Finding the strength of true joy is worth the search – and a huge asset in living an enduring life.

“Therefore, my beloved brethren whom I long to see, my joy and crown, in this way stand firm in the Lord, my beloved.”  – Philippians 4:1
